lord ganesha

At www.dhrishticreations.com you can buy any number of CDs with different stories related to Ganesha. Lord Ganesha has become a favorite with children after the release of movies like “My friend Ganesha”.
Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Mother Goddess, Parvati. Many stories revolve around the birth of this highly invoked god. Ganesha is there throughout the mythological literature related to Hinduism. But we nevertheless should not forget that God stands for humanity and not to a person belonging to a certain religion. No religious ceremony is considered complete without invocation of Ganesha.

Ganesha is favorite with the budding artists. The lord has a body which is unnatural to human form, and artists use a free hand in designing the large rotund belly of Ganpati, his trunk can be turned to any side, and his large years can be made bigger than his head. Two eyes and a trunk also formed out in an Aum shape, symbolize Ganesha.
Like other Hindu Gods, he too supports Sahasranamas. Each name of Ganesha means something different. Slightly different versions of Sahsranamas can be found on Hindu and Sanskrit audio tapes. This is due to their source as either Ganesha Purana or Hindu Scriptures.

Morgaon Ganpati

Lord Mayuresvara
Shri Mayuresvara Mandir is in Pune district, Morgaon, Maharashtra. There are eight temples which are visited by devotees to complete their pilgrimage; this is one out of those eight temples which are dedicated to Ganesha.
Ganesha Purana names Morgaon (Mayurapuri) as one out of the three sacred places to Ganesha. Other two places are in the Brahmanda, while Morgaon is on Prithvi. During Pralaya, end of the Kaliyuga, Ganesha goes into yoganidra at this place.
Lord Mayuresvara has six arms, he is fair in complexion. Normally his vahan is Mushaka, but in Treta Yuga, the third Yuga, he took a fancy to peacock as his vahana. Ganesha was born to Lord Shiva and Parvati after twelve years of penance by Parvati for him to be her son. She prayed for  him and gave birth to him at Lenyadri   (another one out of the 8 temples). Shiva blessed him with the name of Gunesha.
Little Gunesha accidently knocked down a peacock egg from a mango tree. Peacock which emerged out of this broken egg shell became Gunesha’s vahana.
Earlier Morgaon was flocked with numerous peacocks, this also bespeaks for the name of the place.

ganesha in movies

Every child is on lookout for Ganesha as his friend. Ganesh is both on the little screen and the big screen. He is there in the animations and also there in films like My Friend Ganesha. Bal Ganesha brings true to life the little lord. Ganesha speaks all languages, he speaks hindi, marathi, tamil, kannada and other regional languages on screen. Bollywood loves Ganesha, and resounds with 'Maurya re bappa maurya re'.

Ganesha appears in almost all  mythological movies, be it a movie on his daughter Santoshi Mata, or the movie on Lord Shiva, his father. Benevolent lord is there in all rituals connected with worship, as he was given the first place for being worshipped before any auspicious Puja ceremony by Shiva, so all religious movies connect to him one way or the other.
